How much will I earn on Etsy?

A worked example
- Take one handmade item sold for $50. Assume a US bank account, no buyer-paid shipping, no sales tax, no attributed Offsite Ads and no currency conversion. Use one listing and zero additional renewals. These assumptions isolate the basic fees; they are an illustration rather than a promise that every Etsy order uses the same schedule.
- The 6.5% transaction fee is $50 × 0.065 = $3.25. The example US payment fee is $50 × 0.03 + $0.25 = $1.75. Add the $0.20 listing fee for total fees of $5.20. Revenue after platform and payment fees is therefore $44.80, before the cost of making and delivering the product.
- If the item costs $15 to make and seller-paid delivery costs $5, estimated contribution profit becomes $44.80 − $15 − $5 = $24.80, a 49.6% margin. An attributed 15% Offsite Ads charge would add $7.50 in this scenario, reducing profit to $17.30. Keep attribution, payment country, quantity and per-order shipping consistent with the actual order when adjusting the inputs.

Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?
Yes. The transaction fee applies to the item price plus whatever shipping is charged to the buyer, not just the item price. Enter the buyer-facing shipping charge in the calculator so the transaction fee is based on the full order amount.
How does the Offsite Ads fee work?
Offsite Ads fees are only charged on orders Etsy attributes to one of its ads placements, not on every sale. The rate is 15%, or 12% for sellers who have crossed $10,000 in Etsy sales in the past 12 months, and the fee is capped at $100 per order.
Is sales tax included in Etsy's processing fee?
Sales tax collected on an order can be part of the amount the payment processing fee is calculated on, even though it is not revenue you keep. The calculator keeps this as a separate optional input so it affects the fee basis without inflating seller revenue.
Why do payment processing fees differ by country?
Etsy Payments charges a different percentage and fixed fee depending on the seller's payment country, since rates are set per country, not globally. Applying a US processing rate to a non-US account will produce an inaccurate result. Enter the rate and fixed fee published for your actual payment country.
